Kala was born and raised in Bangkok. She always loved American culture but it wasn't until 2005 while visiting a friend in Alameda, California that she truly fell in love. Kala flew over to meet with her friend Nadia about a possible business venture. Nadia decided to enlist the help of her friend Dan. Although the business venture didn't flourish, Kala and Dan's relationship did. They dated for a few months and in December, Kala reluctantly returned to Bangkok -- a month later, Dan wanted to visit Kala and flew to Thailand.

In April 2006, the couple took a trip to Vancouver. Before they parted again, Dan asked Kala to move to California and marry him. Three months later, they had a traditional Thai engagement party in Bangkok and began planning a 50s and 60s inspired wedding with a movie-theme nearly 8,000 miles apart.
